Boston College Women in Business is an organization, network, and community of undergraduate female students dedicated to their empowerment and education. WIB is committed to the growth and expansion of professional and personal opportunities for its members, with a focus on business, leadership, and female celebration and innovation.

Additionally, the group is devoted to helping students answer Father Himes' three crucial questions in the development of their vocation:

The successful candidate will also have a strong ability to communicate well both orally and in written form and to pay close attention to detail.  An enthusiastic attitude, good problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently with a strong client service orientation are among other critical skills we are seeking. 

Qualifications for this position:

  • Familiarity with MS Office, Word & Excel with the ability to quickly learn other software programs as needed

  • Detail-oriented with a demand for a high degree of accuracy

  • A strong interest in the financial planning/investment advisory field

  • Strong verbal, analytical and written communication skills

JOHN HANCOCK UNDERGRADUATE WOMEN’S MENTORSHIP PROGRAM

John Hancock’s Bond & Corporate Finance (“BCF”) Group is inviting applicants for a six-month Undergraduate Women’s Mentorship Program. The program is targeted at female undergraduates who are currently in their sophomore year (Class of 2021) and have interest in business, finance, mathematics, economics, or investments. The program will run mid-March 2019 through the end of September 2019. Mentees will be required to commit roughly 1-3 hours per month to connect with their mentors.

The mission of the mentorship program is to help undergraduate women gain a better understanding of the investment management industry and the possible career paths within it. Mentors will also support mentees in the development of their professional skills.

Selected undergraduate mentees will be paired with associates/analysts within John Hancock’s BCF Group. By sharing knowledge, experience, and career advice, the mentors will offer an educational experience with the opportunity to explore a potential career in investment management. Each mentee should expect to commit 1-3 hours per month to connect with her mentor. While flexible and the prerogative of each mentor/mentee pairing, monthly meetings/sessions may entail:

  • Coffee/lunch in proximity to John Hancock’s Back Bay office (197 Clarendon St.)

  • Introduction to investment management

  • Information sessions to outline a “day in the life” of current professionals, including Associates and Summer Associates

  • Deep dive sessions on trading, portfolio management, and investment research

  • Professional development sessions including effective communication and presentation skills, resume writing and interview preparation, Excel training
